about me

Max Legat - Drums

Hi, my name is Max Legat and I was born and raised in Vienna, Austria. I started playing drums at the age of 7 when I got my first set from my parents as a christmas gift. I had my first lesson with Albin Janoska but I also had multiple other teachers which really inspired and helped me to get my chops together.

Thanks to Georg Beck, Alex Pohn, Shayan Fathi, Alex Deutsch, Dirk Erchinger and Christian Vinne. At the age of 10 I started jamming with a guitarist I met in school and we formed a band, which we still have up to this day. After graduation from high school I was studying drums at “Drumtrainer Berlin” for 1 year and after that 2 semesters at “Vienna Music Insitute”.

In 2013 I won the “Chad Smith Bombastic Contest” and as a price I flew to LA to meet Chad and play with his side project “Bombastic Meatbats” at the Gaslamp in Long Beach.

I´m currently playing in a couple of projects;

  • “Mashiko”, which is a funk band feat. David Sladek and Gregor Bischops

  • "Wagner the Band“, a Soulful Rock Band.

I really enjoy playing live because of the energy you get from the crowd, but I also love finding the right part and sound for a song in the studio.

Tracking

I´m available for tracking songs either in my studio, or in a studio of your choice. Just send me the tracks and I will record two takes, which I find suitable for the song and you have the choice to choose. Please tell me what sound or groove preferences you have, so I can choose the appropriate drums, tunings and microphones.

Rental / Teching

I´m offering multiple drum sets, snares, cymbals for rental. It´s also possible to book me as a drum tech for live or in the studio.
Please tell me what drums or sound you are looking for and I will bring some different combinations and options, which will fit the track and music the best. If there are already drums available I can also tweak and tune them, so that the engineer gets proper sound sources.

Tusita Studio

With almost 40m2 the recording room is fantastic for recording live bands and even large ensembles fit inside comfortably. Drums sound punchy but still lively at the one end and you are able to get an even tighter sound if you place the kit near the control room. If you want less bleed in your microphones, there are also some Gobos available but you could also place amps in the 25m2 control room for maximum separation. With the Zulus (tape simulation) you are able to capture a very fat and tape like sound, which makes instruments glue together amazingly. The P16 personal monitoring is also very handy because every musician can dial in, their own mix and is able to make quick adjustments on the spot.

Please contact me for rates.
